The track and field finals

Sorry, I have not posted in a long time...
Well... Im going to talk about the Track and Field finals that were held last Thursday.
Last Thursday, We went to the Choa Chu Kang stadium for the Track and Field finals. The thick atmosphere soon enveloped us as we entered the stadium. Large, prominent banners were hung all around the stadium, which had all the participating schools' logos Printed on them, while ours were painted in our school colours: red, orange and yellow. There at the stadium, we cheered loudly.
Here are some things that i observed (if not wrongly)
Firstly, i feel that our cheering was not as loud as expected, despite the schools kan chiongness in sending 300+ people to the stadium. Most of the cheering came from the councillors, who were much more enthusiastic than us and had "The Hwa Chong Spirit"with them. This was not very well done, as even other (girls)schools were screaming louder than all of us.

Secondly, I observed that many students succumbed to the temptations of the food and drink stalls outside; a cool refuge from the blaring heat of the stadium within the gates. Some students (I will not mention names) even went to the more secluded areas of the stadium to play their handphone games (a.k.a PES 2009) Although i feel that going to the stalls occasionally is no sin, the repeated "offenders" and "handphone gamers'"attitudes and behaviours were totally anti-social. We were invited to the stadium to root for the "trackers" and cheer them to victory and not to engage in our own activities, even if no teachers were around. Taking a break from the Glaring sun and heat while enjoying a cool sprite, cola or ice cream once in a while was a smart move, although not for too long.

Finally, I would like to comment on the irresponsibility of some students during the event. As from what I observed, a huge number of empty drink bottles was collected at Grady's seat. It would seem that the Hwa Chong Students just threw the bottles to the seat in an act of playfulness, convenience, or just to frame Grady. The last straw was when i saw someone throw one empty bottle up to the seat, saying (word for word) "Aiya, never mind lah. Anyway there already got so many bottles already, just dump it there lah." So i got really fed up and decided to take matters into my own hands, assisting Grady and Samuel Yu in Clearing up the area.
The above mentioned speech when the boy threw the bottle reflects on how we can learn from our literature texts such as "The Lottery" and "Animal Farm", as his mentality was : Everybody is doing it, so it's okay to follow. This is the wrong mindset, as from what we learn in "The Lottery", we should have a mind of our own and stand up to what we think is wrong. When the boy saw that pile of bottles, he should not have thought of throwing his bottle into the pile and instead, throw it himself. "You will fail if you jump into the bandwagon with the rest."
This year, we got Double Champions for B and C divisions. I really hope that we can maintain the title next year. also, I hpe that next year's batch of Secondary 1s will be more Enthusiastic towards this event, as the behaviour mentioned above is undesirable.
